Bluegrass Jams in Northern Nevada
Hosted by the Northern Nevada Bluegrass Association
All our jams are free, but it's greatly appreciated if you can bring a few bucks to purchase something or make a donation to the venues where we hold the jams. We seriously love Bluegrass, and we play only Bluegrass music at our jams.
Everyone's welcome to come out and watch/listen to any of our jams! Contact info@nnba.org with any questions!
Beginner Jam
Once per month class at the Mountain Music Parlor
Bluegrass Music is pretty easy to learn. But you need to know a few unwritten rules and understand some simple musical techniques. Most of all, you need to know some Bluegrass tunes and songs by memory before you walk into a "real" Bluegrass Jam.
4th Thursday of Every Month
5-8pm at the Mountain Music Parlor, 735 S. Center St. Reno
You should know some basic chords, how to strum or pick your instrument. We provide music stands, printed materials and expert instructors. You can learn more here.
All-Level Jams
Once per month
Once you know the rules, chords, lyrics and playing techniques for a few Bluegrass songs, you're ready to blast off on your Bluegrass journey! It's OK to bring a music stand and some books or song sheets to help you learn and memorize.
2nd Tuesday of Every Month
6:30-8:30pm at Mountain Mike’s Pizza 1201 Baring Blvd, Sparks
Advanced Jams
Twice a month at Ceol Irish Pub
These jams are "Invitational Only" as players are expected to play and improvise on the fly. Advanced Bluegrass players know hundreds (if not thousands!) of tunes and songs from memory, and that's the level you need to be at to join an Advanced Jam. If you think you're ready for this jam, you need to be on the "Pickers List". Go to the Pickers Page to find out what the criteria are.
2nd and 4th Thursdays
6-8pm at Ceol Irish Pub
410 California Ave, Reno
